  • Protecting Your Solar PV System During Lightning Storms

The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning advisory (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Guc9csosv) for the Southern Province, Colombo, Kalutara, and surrounding areas.

While your Virideo solar system is equipped with robust AC and DC Surge Protection Devices (SPDs), extreme lightning events can occasionally impact performance. To ensure your energy production remains uninterrupted, we recommend a quick Post-Storm Checklist once the weather clears:

  • Monitor Inverter Status: During daylight hours, check if any red or orange alarm lights are visible.
  • Verify Switch Positions: Ensure all DC isolators and AC breakers (MCBs) are in the “ON” position.
  • Inspect Surge Protectors: Check the “status window” on your SPDs. If the indicator has changed from Green to Red/Black, the device has sacrificed itself to protect your system and requires replacement.

Technical Support: If you notice an error or feel unsure about your system’s status, please contact us at 0778909763 (Umesh) , 0771547876(Akash), 0773972828(Malindu) . We are happy to assist with remote troubleshooting.

Please Note: While we offer comprehensive support, site visits to reset or repair components affected by external lightning/surges are subject to a standard service fee, as these events fall outside of standard free maintenance coverage.

    Stay safe, Team Virideo
